W. A. Mozart: Magic Flute
One of the most beautiful works of chamber music for clarinet, Mozart’s Adagio KV411, became a great inspiration for Clarimonia a few years ago, which created an impulse to seek out other musical works composed for a non-traditional set of instruments– two clarinets and basset horns - to produce a captivating and colourful sound. Since there were only a small number of original compositions for such instruments, Clarimonia members focused on Mozart’s later works and soughtto adapt suitable parts from his operas. Over the years the Clarimonia Ensemble added individual parts of Mozart’s Magic Flute to their concert programme and for the first time, in 2013, they were successful in presenting a comprehensive programme comprising of selections adapted from the famous opera, with a modern text reflecting the original libretto, by Emanuel Schikanedr. Having performed the project with a set stage and received very positive feedback from the audience, the membership of the ensemble decided to prepare a similar rendering from Don Giovanni.
